This week, the Pisces Fleet reigned supreme, with Striped Marlin taking center stage and impressive numbers caught almost daily. The fleet’s success was further underscored by additional notable catches of Dorado, Yellowtail, Wahoo, and Roosterfish, adding variety to anglers’ successful stories. Here’s a breakdown:
- Striped Marlin: The clear highlight, with catches from boats like “BBII,” “MY WAY,” “VALERIE,” “ANDREA,” and others. The sizes ranged from an estimated 60 to 180 pounds, showcasing their abundance and size variability.
- Yellowtail: Featured prominently on boats like “KARINA” and “Anamar,” caught using Rapalas and sardina. Sizes ranged from 8 to 15 pounds.
- Dorado: Although caught less frequently, boats like “ADRIANA” and “LISTO” landed a few, weighing between 20 to 38 pounds.
- Wahoo: An impressive catch, “LA CORONITA” successfully landed a 49-pound specimen.
- A unique catch, a roosterfish, added a dash of excitement to the week. Unique to the “Anamar,” a couple weighing 12 to 15 pounds added a unique twist to the week’s fishing stories.
The Marlin activity at the “1150 Spot” really stood out and seemed to be the “hotspot” of the week.

“BBII,” a 31-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with Captain Hector at the wheel and Mates Gilberto and Joel in the cockpit, had a very successful day. They managed to locate ELEVEN Striped Marlin weighing up to 120 pounds on the 1150 Spot for the Blair couple to catch and release. The angler’s unique fishing skills allowed them to catch and release almost a dozen mighty warriors, a feat few Cabo anglers could pull off. Congratulations, Captain Hector, Mates Gilberto, Joel, and the Blairs!

Until it didn’t produce! Then they went to the 1150 Spot once again! Captain Raymon and Mate Hector took their guests Brian Burgher, Brian Thompson, Christopher LaPorte, Stuart Ford, and Stuart Port on the “LISTO, “a 48-foot Viking, and were looking for marlin…and missed! But they got One Wahoo on a curry and one 20-pound Dorado on bait.

Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Carlos S., who run the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, were quite successful on the 95 Spot. They found SIX STRIPED MARLIN for their guests, Anthony dal Porto, David Bunnin, Sr., and Matthew Carter. The fishermen caught and released the Six 100-pound Striped Marlin they took on bait. They were very proud of their work that day.

“CORONITA,” a”40-foot Cabo Express with Captain Manuel, Sr., running the cockpit at the Helm and Mate Jr. 2, had a group from New Hampshire as their guests. Frank Dowd, James Dowd, John Dowd, Joseph Dowd, Patrick Dowd, and Shoun Dowd caught and released just what they were hoping for, Two Striped Marlin in the 100 to 110-pound range and one 49-pound Wahoo, both on bait outside the Pedregal. They knew getting a Wahoo was a treat, so they were thrilled to see one on their hook.
The 48-foot Viking, ‘MY WAY,’ known for its spacious deck and experienced crew, had Captain Arturo, Mates Daniel and Josue running the boat and couldn’t be left behind. They ran to the 1150 Spot, also! Their California anglers, Jennifer Hopper, Joseph Hagen, Matt Hopper, Sandi Hopper, and Wesley Todd, experienced the thrill of the chase and the satisfaction of a successful catch as they caught and released 10 90 to 180-pound Striped Marlin on ballyhoo, mackerel, and lures. While they lacked one marlin, they made up in weight!

“Anmar,” a”23-foot Panga with owner/Captain Cesar acting as Mate as well, took his clients, Charles and Gina Biter, from Clarksville, Tennessee, in front of the Solmar where the anglers caught One Sierra on sardina, Two 15-pound Roosterfish in front of the Solmar on sardina, and One Yellowtail at the Lighthouse. Being in the open panga was a good time for all, with the warm water spray and being so close to the fish and the water. The anglers had a great time, and the Captain did too.
Bob Moore, Jeremy Wilde, Kyle Moore, and Zach Thiry chose the “KARINA,” a 30-foot Bertram, with the fish-loving Captain Bruce and Mate Jorge Velez. The fishermen caught fifteen 10-pound Yellowtail on cuchi and Rapala at the Tule. It was a long day but a fun one, and the anglers enjoyed every moment of it.
A group went fishing on the 31-foot Bertram, the “RUTHLESS.” Emanuel Leandro, Abad Francisco, Rosales Saucedo, Guillermo Uribe (from Villa Javier Casillas), Jose Roberto (from Molina Villegas), Juan Pablo, and Benitez Muguiro with Captain Bruce and Mate Jose (from Cabo San Lucas, BCS). They had a successful day, catching and releasing four 95-pound Striped Marlin on bait at the 1150 Spot, which continued to produce – hot and heavy!
PJohn Faller and Michael Zabkiewicz from Davisburg, Michigan, chose the “ADRIANA,”a 28-foot Uniflite, and Captain Frank and Mate Mario J., the anglers who caught two Dorado weighing 25 and 38 pounds on ballyhoo and curry at the 1150 Spot. While the 1150 might have discontinued producing Marlin for everyone on that site, they were still showing off with Wahoo and Dorado!
The 48-foot Viking, “MY WAY,” “run by Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue, boldly charted its course to the 1150 Spot with anglers Jennifer Hopper, Joseph Hagen, Matt Hopper, Sandi Hopper, and Wesley Todd from California, with their desire for fishing were successful in mixing traditional ballyhoo with mackerel and lures for the capture and release of TEN STRIPED MARLIN weighing up to 180 pounds. What a great time they had!
On the “VALERIE,”35-foot Bertram, Captain Roberto Sandez, and Mate Salvador Flores welcomed the Sheldons aboard. Greg and Porter enjoyed catching and releasing their Six 80 to 120-pound Striped Marlin that they got at the 1150 Spot. The Captain and Mate also enjoyed fishing with the Sheldons; it had been one successful day!
Captain Erick Orozco and Mate Hot Rod Jose Ramiro Ramirez, who ran the “HOT ROD” 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, selected the right spot when they headed to the 1150 Bank. They took Jeff Wenciker, Kari Wenciker, Kurt Davis, and Lisa Coleman from Newport News, Virginia, to the 1150 Spot, where they caught and released Three Striped Marlin from 60 to 140 pounds on bait.
Eric Muran from Cabo San Lucas, BCS, caught Nine Yellowtail on a Half-Day Trip on the “KARINA,” a 30-foot Bertram, with Captain Orlando Murillo and Mate Jorge Velez. They were caught on cuchi and Rapala at the Migrino. If this was the total for one-half a day, what could be the total for a full day?
“BBII,” a”37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with Captain Hector and Mate Gilberto, had their group from Arizona – Brandan Hentz, Chace Krueger, Isaiah Hentz, Kade Hentz, Terrus Hentz, and Zane Hentz – warm up their fishing skills with Four 110 to 130-pound Striped Marlin that they caught and released on bait at the 95 Spot. They laughed and said if that were a “wam-up,” they would hate to see what the real battle would be like! Everyone enjoyed the day.
