Pisces Fleet Weekly update from December 27, 2024 – January 2, 2025
Sunny, 70 to 75-degree weather greeted New Year visitors to Cabo this past week. The water temperature
was even warmer, and while the Striped Marlin weren’t targeted, they were still around, some were still caught, and lots of Yellowfin Tuna were around to keep fishing interesting. Even a few Dorado were taken. The wind has been mild, creating comfortable conditions for fishing. When arriving from freezing, wintry weather, these conditions can make you feel like you are in paradise, and of course, you are. The thing is, you won’t know ‘til you try it!
The “BILL COLLECTOR,” a 32-foot Cabo Express with Captain Niko and Mate Erick Jr., had a single avid angler from Iowa, Mike McCoy, fishing with them. First, they headed outside Del Cerro, where he caught and released One 120-pound Striped Marlin on a mackerel, and then they headed to the 95 Spot, where he caught a 40-pound Wahoo on ballyhoo. This was a great beginning to the new year for Mike, and catching the 40-pound Wahoo gave him bragging rights, as few are caught that large.
Francis Chouinard and Katelyn Anne Bohn from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, had a wonderful day on the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Orlando and Mate Carlos Santos, who took them to the Golden Gate, where they caught and released Two 100 to 110-pound Striped Marlin on mackerel. Plus 4 Grouper weighing up to 40 pounds. They enjoyed fishing with the captain and mate and had loads of fun.
Two anglers, Dan Traver and Kent Wallace, chose the “ADRIANA,” a28-foot Uniflite to charter, and Captain Frank and Mate Arturo took their anglers twenty-eight miles to the 180 Spot. The two caught Four 6 to 8-pound Yellowfin Tuna on bait and feathers. They had a good day and enjoyed interacting with the captain and mate.
Captain Orlando and Mate Carlos Santos on the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram, ran to the Golden Gate Bank where their group from California, Keith Cintron, Luis Cintron, and Pam Cintron caught Two Grouper, one weighing 12 pounds and one weighing 17 pounds on mackerel. Even more thrilling, they caught and released Four 50 to 70-pound Hammerhead Shark also on mackerel. These unexpected catches added an exhilarating twist to their fishing adventure.
Solo angler Ben Whitley chose the “ADRIANA,” a28-foot Uniflite, with Captain Frank and Mate Arturo, who took him twenty-three miles to the 180 Spot, where they found Eighteen Yellowfin Tuna from 8 to 30 pounds that he caught (and released) on bait and feathers. The crew and Ben share a passion for fishing, making the fishing day incredibly special.
Captain Jesus R. and Mate Lalo, took an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma group thirty-five miles to the 220 Spot on the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram where Andrew Pearson, Herbert Lang, Jake Gregston, Jared Gregston, Jay Gregston, and Kylee Gregston caught (and released) Fourteen Yellowfin Tuna weighing between 8 and 20 pounds on bait and feathers and One 5-pound Skipjack thirty-five miles to the 220 Spot on bait. The unexpected thrill of reeling one beautiful creature after another throughout the day added an exciting twist to their fishing adventure.
