With Spring just around the corner, we can’t help marveling at the first four months of 2025. There were surprises this week as the Striped Marlin began to show again, as did Wahoo, and even Dorado. The number of boats in the Pisces Fleet grew as more anglers reeled in impressive catches, beginning with Striped Marlin, Wahoo, Yellowfin, Roosterfish, Yellowtail, and Dorado.  And even those out for bottom fishing had plenty to be had! For the most part, anglers fished under clear skies and on smooth seas, making it an exciting fishing trip for every fisherman. The air was warm, the sun was bright, and most people returned to the dock with smiles on their faces. numbers again, as did Wahoo, and even Dorado. The number of boats in the Pisces Fleet grew as more anglers reeled in impressive catches, beginning with Striped Marlin, Wahoo, Yellowfin, Roosterfish, Yellowtail, and Dorado.  And even those out for bottom fishing, there were plenty to be had! Captain Frank and Mate Mario, running the "ADRIANA,"

The Tuna has returned. Captain Frank and Mate Mario, running the “ADRIANA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, headed to the San Jaime Bank with their clients anglers Brian Francis and John Francis, who caught Fourteen Yellowfin Tuna weighing from 8 to 20 pounds on bait on a course 30 miles to the San Jaime. The Francis brothers weren’t expecting the Tuna to show, but they were happy when they did!

Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores welcomed their guests, Brandon Bombardo, Craig Masmar, and Jeremy Denzer from New Prague, Minnesota, aboard the “VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram, the platform from which the anglers caught and released Two 120-pound Striped Marlin on mackerel at the 1150 Spot. The seas were calm, and the waves were only around 2 or 3 feet, so the boat ride was almost perfect. In addition, the temperature was 70 degrees, so it was close to paradise, at least compared to the weather in Minnesota. The fishermen had a wonderful time that day!

"CHASIN TAIL," a 62-foot Viking

Chartered the “CHASIN TAIL,” a 62-foot Viking, as their fishing vessel with Captain Pepe (brother to Alex on “Friday Bank”) and Mates Hamo and Ulises, anglers from Reno, Nevado, were eager to find Tuna but hoped there might be a Marlin in their future also. Their day went exceedingly well. Could it have been the captain they chose? In his bio, Captain Pepe said, “Fishing is in my blood – I have been fishing since I was old enough to think, but professionally since I was 23 years old. If I had to pick a favorite fish to catch, I would choose Yellowfin Tuna, with Black Marlin and Cabrilla (Grouper) as follow-ups.” Then Captain Pepe headed to the 1150, and 45 miles outside of the 95 and 1150 Spot, his anglers caught Thirty-five Yellowfin Tuna from 10 to 20 pounds on bait and caught and released Four 110 to 120-pound Striped Marlin at the 1150 Spot.

"FRIDAY BANK," a 66-foot Viking,

The very sought-after charter, “FRIDAY BANK,” a 66-foot Viking, with Captain Alex and Mates Saul, Roberto, and Juanito, had a very successful catch for their group from Peak, Texas. Captain Alex Collins began fishing at 11 with his brother, Pepe, who is also a Captain on Friday Bank and has fished professionally for over 20 years. Although he loves fishing in general, his favorite catch is Tuna, and he specializes in kite fishing for Yellowfin, which made him the perfect captain for his anglers, Alfredo Gomez, Andrew Gomez, Dardan Salihu, Derrick Bruno, Driton Salihu, and Fredrick Bethea Quinton. They were 40 miles from the 150 when they began to catch Yellowfin Tuna, and before they had finished for the day, they had caught and released 10 yellowfin Tuna. Additionally, they had caught and released Two Striped Marlin, weighing around 110 pounds, from the same Spot.

Jackson Matter, Kristen Matter, Michael Matter, Todd Vandehey, and Zouie Matter chose a 31-foot Bertram, the “TIBURON,” with Captain Orlando and Mates Murillo and Carlos Santos and went to the Balmaceda, where they caught and released two 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait. They were happy with the Marlin they caught. Finding and catching the Marlin had been tough. They were pleased that Captain Orlando and Mates Murillo and Carlos were as experienced and skilled as they were, as this led them to find the fish, which is why they had a successful day.

“VALERIE,” a 35-foot Bertram with Roberto Sandez at the Helm and Salvador Flores overseeing the cockpit, took Christopher Labonte and Frank Keenan, their clients from Old Orchard, Maine, to the 1150/95 Spot, where they caught and released three 120-pound Striped Marlin on curry. They were excited over their catches and had many tales to tell once they reached the dock!

“CHASIN TAIL,”  a 62-foot Viking, is managed by Captains Dulce and Pepe and Mates Ulices and Ramon, who immediately felt a camaraderie with their anglers from Reno, Nevada, Erik Strehle, Luke Stamer, John Shelby, Howard Shelby, and Skylar Schoen. The group was both surprised and pleased
to make such a successful catch at Cabo Real and the 1150 Spots – they caught and released Three Striped Marlin weighing from 100 to 120 pounds on mackerel and curry and one 15-pound Yellowfin Tuna at the 1150 Spot.  It was a testament to the potential of what an exciting fishing trip in Cabo San Lucas can look like this time of year.

“REBECCA,” a 31-foot Bertram, Brad Clark Orlando / Carlos 1 Wahoo 39.5 LURE 95 SPOT VERDE LIMON Herbert Hanson, Stephanie Clark, and Tammy J. Williams from Mississippi Anglers in Reno, Nevada, were both surprised and pleased to have such a successful catch. It was a testament to the potential of what an exciting fishing trip in Cabo San Lucas can look like. Inspiring others to book their charter and experience the thrill of a successful catch.

The Marlin have arrived!  Just ask Captain TOÃO, who runs the 64-foot Viking, “LA CHINGONA 2.” He and his mates took his clients, Blaine Messerle, Dolores Peterson, John Bishop, and Linda Piovison from Cabo San Lucas, BCS, to the 95-Spot, where their group caught and released Eight Striped Marlin that weighed from 80 to 110 pounds on mackerel and ballyhoo. Everyone on the boat was grinning. And everyone on the boat had a wonderful time, needless to say. So, now is the time to make your reservations.

ANDREA," a 28-foot Uniflite,

with Captain Jesus Romero and Mate Marcelo, found Striped Marlin at the 95 Spot for his clients. Allyson Dwyer, Berkley Dwyer, and Griffin Dwyer managed to catch and release Three Striped Marlin weighing 90 to 110 pounds on ballyhoo at the 95 Spot and had a great time doing so. In addition, they took a nice-sized Dorado that weighed 20 pounds, also on bait. They weren’t sure which they were more excited to catch, the Marlin or the Dorado, but it didn’t matter, as they had caught both.

Chris Dollete, Dan Fuchslin, and Kayla Livelo, along with Liza Fuchslin from California, chose the “REBECCA,” a 31-foot Bertram, as their fishing platform. Captain Julio and his mate ran the boat to the 95 Spot, where they caught and released three 100-pound Striped Marlin on mackerel lures and ballyhoo. Not only were they proud of catching the Marlin, but they also had a great time enjoying the interaction with Captain Julio. It was a perfect day, filled with good memories to take home and savor.

Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo, who manage the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, had a heck of a day.  They took clients from Houston, Texas, out on their boat to the Whale’s Head, ten miles outside of the Cabeza de Ballena, actually, and there their good luck began! The anglers, Fabiola Marmorato and Norberto Marmorato, caught and released five 100 to 120-pound Striped Marlin on ballyhoo and lures. To top it off, they caught a Trophy-sized 49.5-pound Wahoo on a green/yellow lure right at the Whale’s Head (Cabeza de Ballena). Successful, fun trips, such as the Marmoratos, inspire others to book their Pisces charter and experience the thrill of reeling in a successful catch.

 "RIPPER," a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge,

Some of Colorado’s finest – Colton Morrow, Connor Sims, Jackson Pirritt, Koby Kaplan, Logan Coughlin,
Luke Nathan, Noah Bachman, and Pauli Morrow chartered the “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, this week. Captain Abel and Mate Ninja  ELEVEN STRIPED MARLIN weighing from 90 to 120 pounds, all on bait! They hit the jackpot, then took them to the 1150 Spot, where they caught and released, catching more than any other boat in the fleet. Congratulations on your catch. But wait! You also caught a 10-pound Skipjack on feathers at the 1150 Spot. That’s a nice ending to this week’s report!

The Cabo San Lucas, BCS group of clients, Daniela Braniff, Francisco Braniff, Gloria Aspe, Jorge Braniff, Jose Roberto, Martínez, Pedro, Gorozpe and Sandra Uranga knew Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue on the “MY WAY,” a 48-foot Viking, so they were sure to have a good time. And that they did.  They headed to the 1150/95 Spot and immediately began catching Striped Marlin.  Before they were finished for the day, they had caught Eight 100 to 120-pound Striped Marlin on ballyhoo, caballito, and mackerel. They enjoyed the day and decided unanimously that it was a great way to kick off the Spring Season!

FleetP  “BBII” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with Captain Winkler and Mate Gilberto, had their group from Evansville, Wisconsin – Andrew Phillips, Colton Brown, Kashton Phillips, Kingly Phillips, Mason Brown, and Matt Brown – warm up their fishing skills with Four 110 to 130-pound Striped Marlin that they caught and released, all on bait at the 95 Spot. They laughed and said if that was a “warm-up,” they would hate to see what the real battle would be like! Everyone enjoyed the day.

Captain Alex and Mates Saul and Beto are known for their eager fishing personalities, so when the large group from Florida came aboard the “FRIDAY BANK,” a 66-foot Viking, they were welcomed with smiles and treated as though they had arrived home. When they were on course to the 110, around 44 miles out, Anthony James, Thompson Casper, Coetsee Gabriel, Alanson Randol, Jacob Cormac, Wieder Jeffrey, Mark Graflund, Luke Henry, Haunert Nader, Nihad Polus, Vincent Maximus, Mellet William, Anthony Leonard, and Martin Leonard they began catching Yellowfin Tuna, and they caught Fifteen 10 to 20-pound Yellowfin Tuna throughout the day, with One 30-pound Wahoo in the mix. All of the fish were caught on bait and feathers. Everyone had such a good time!  It was like kids at play.
