Pisces Fleet Weekly update from November 29 – December 5, 2024
Nowhere in Baja has sportfishing remained as consistent as in Cabo this year. The fishing is phenomenal, and it is already December. The weather is in the 70s to low 80s – the skies are clear, and the seas are calm. The wind is breezy, 5 to 10 knots. The water has remained around 75 to 79 degrees, and the waves are a lazy 5 to 8 feet this week. Where are you anglers from cold, wet, snowy states? Our inviting weather and calm seas are full of fish, and we are ready to welcome you.
Pisces Our fishing trips this week have been incredibly successful, with a catch rate of 95%. This means that almost every trip resulted in a rewarding catch. The combined species catch rate is as follows: 73.19% for all species, 14.49% for Billfish, 27.54% for Dorado, and 17.39% for Tuna and Other species.
On the ‘LA CHINGONA 2,’ a 64-foot Viking, Captain Antonio and Mates Luis and Juan provided a unique experience for our solo angler, Adam Kibel from New York City. Adam’s expertise was on full display as he caught and released Eight 120-pound Striped Marlin, One 150-pound Blue Marlin, and One 80-pound Sailfish at the Cerros de Arena. His intense battles with the marlin showcased his skill and strength, making it a day to remember. Congratulations, Adam Kibel, for a truly exceptional performance!
Captain Rosendo Gomez and Mate Mario Juarez created a day filled with laughter and joy on the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram. Their solo angler, Clarence Mcgilliva, fought Four Yellowfin Tuna, weighing 10 to 50 pounds. They took the bait – 20 miles to the 200 Spot. As he battled the beasts, Clarence wore down and wasn’t sorry to see the last tuna. The camaraderie and shared joy of the day made it a memorable experience for all, highlighting the sense of community in our sportfishing trips.
Dorothy Deane Drouilhet, Alex Priest, Barbara Anne Priest, and Kelly Glen Priest, four fishermen from Rochester, New York, chartered the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram run by Captain Jesus Romero and Mate Carmelo Navarrete. They caught and released four-striped marlin, which was 100 to 120 pounds, on mackerel at the Los Arcos. The serene blue sky, warm weather, and the beautiful sea made the day even more perfect, creating the ideal setting for a perfect fishing day.
Brenda Melnychuk, David Melnychuk, Evelyn Ottenbreit, and Ronald Ottenbreit chose the “ADRIANA,” a28-foot Uniflite, as their fishing platform. Captain Frank and Mate Mario J. chose the Los Arcos Bank to take the group from Martensville, Saskatchewan, Canada, to fish, and it was a good thing they did. They were able to catch and release Two Striped Marlin in the 100 to 120-pound range, and they released One 150-pound Thresher Shark, and they caught one 35-pound Wahoo, all on bait at Los Arcos. They enjoyed the diversity of the fish they caught and looked forward to returning to catch more of the Sea of Cortez wonders.
Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo on the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, took two people named Charles, Charles Ann Consoli, and Charles Schoemaker to the Los Arcos to fish. From the moment they stepped on the boat, a unique bond was formed between the crew and anglers, united by their love for fishing. They treasured every second of the day as they caught and released Eight Striped Marlin in the 100 to 130-pound range and caught and released One 80-pound Thresher Shark on bait at the Los Arcos Bank. There was never a dull moment on the water. Their captain and mate were priceless; they would surely ask for them when they returned.
Captain Bruce M. and Mate Jorge Velez carried Rachel and Shaun Jorgenson out on the 30-foot Bertram, “KARINA,” to the Los Arcos, where they caught and released One 120-pound Striped Marlin and One 200-pound Thresher Shark on bait at the Los Arcos. They thought the Striped Marlin was the most exciting but decided instead that the Thresher Shark was the thrill of a lifetime, but they determined that they could live without catching another Thresher Shark again in their life. However, it made for a lot of good stories to tell.
Amanda Halbach, Beth Johnson, Chris Johnson, and Ray Halbach, from Geneva, Illinois, chartered the 35-foot “EL WAHOO KING,” where they caught and released Three 120-pound Striped Marlin at the Vinorama on Ballyhoo and Two very good-sized Wahoo on Rapala, one weighing 40 pounds and one weighing 53 pounds on Rapala at the Destiladeras. They had quite a celebration at the end of the day.
Father Sidney Jackson, with daughter Antoneia (Toni) Jackson, and her 10-year-old son, Kevin Jackson, who were all visiting from Washington, D.C., chartered “BBII,” a 37-foot Viking Billfish 2018, with Captain Osiel and Mates Joel and Gil. The Jacksons caught Four Yellowfin Tuna from 80 to 200 pounds 25 miles to the 180 Spot. The 200-pound monster was captured by Antonia Jackson, the 10-year-old, who landed the 200-pound Yellowfin Tuna on Curry and Macarena 25 miles to the 180 Spot. She breathlessly recounted her catch, which lasted 45 minutes to bring alongside the boat to be gaffed, according to Captain Osiel.
Captain Abel and Mate Jose Luis on the “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge had a San Diego, California Group, Jacob Kalasho, Rivani Hermiz, Silas Williams and William Sheridan who spent the day catching NINETEEN YELLOWFIN TUNA from 8 to 80 pounds on Kite and Curry at the San Jaime and Four Skipjack that weighed 4 pounds each at the same place. It was an exhausted group of anglers who left the boat. They enjoyed the day, the crew, and the excellent Cabo fishing.
On the 31-foot Bertram “REBECCA,” Captain Raul and Mate Tonyo enjoyed their day with the Crawford couple from Craig, Colorado. They put them on TEN STRIPED MARLIN weighing 100 to 130 pounds, which they caught and released at the Los Arcos on bait. They were exhausted but jubilant and grateful to the crew for the wonderful day!
“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo had a great time with David Keller and Michael Keller from Las Vegas, Nevada. They caught and released One 200-pound Blue Marlin with a Volador lure, Seven Yellowfin Tuna 10 to 40 pounds on feathers, and Two 5-pound Skipjack on feathers, all at San Jaime Bank.
With the mild day and the warm Baja sun, they could not have asked for a more perfect fishing day. Their crew was excellent!
Captain Beto Lira and Mate Mario who ran the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram chartered by fishermen from Frisco, Texas, Chanston Woods, Chris Sinkey, Ginger Woods, and Shanda Sinkey caught and released One 125-pound Striped Marlin on a green and yellow lure and Fifteen Yellowfin Tuna weighing 10 to 40 pounds on bait and feathers outside Herradura. Three of these anglers fished on Sunday and had caught and released Seven Striped Marlin and were back for a repeat. Instead, the 15 Yellowfin made them feel like the warriors they were!

p Charles Westcott, Evan Westcott, Kian Nathe, Rohan Nathe, and Tyler Nathe from Washington were on a roll on the “CALIENTE,” a 42-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Jaime and Mate Luis A. as they treasured every second of the day when they caught and released Eight 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait at the Los Arcos. They caught and released one 200-pound Blue Marlin on a volador lure, caught Seven Yellowfin Tuna weighing from 10 to 40 pounds on bait, and hooked Two 5-pound Skipjack on feathers at the San Jaime Bank. They released some and kept some, and they were so excited to get the tuna weighing over 100 pounds, although it took every bit of their strength. They also caught two Bonito on bait in the same spot. Some happy, exhausted warriors left the boat that day, along with some proud crew members.
Bertil Pettersson was looking for a good time when he boarded the “KNOT WORKIN,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, with Captain Tito Olascoaga and Mate Cesar, and a good time he had! They headed straight to the Los Arcos Spot, where Bertil caught and released Four 100-pound Striped Marlin on Macarela and One 50-pound Thresher Shark on Macarela! He walked off the boat, feeling several feet taller. Tito and Cesar were also proud of him that day.
Michael Keller from Las Vegas, Nevada, returned another day to fish solo, leaving his brother behind. He and his brother had fished earlier in the week and caught and released a blue marlin. However, he had enjoyed fishing so much on the “ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite, Captain Fernando Noyola and Mate Marcelo that he returned, and as luck would have it, he caught and released Six 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait at the Los Arcos on bait and One 32-pound Wahoo on a Rapala. Where was Brother David when you needed a hand on the Marlin?
From Minot, North Dakota, the Pardon family returned to try their hand again at Cabo fishing.
