Visitors go to Cabo year-round looking for sunshine and beaches, and fishermen head there for fishing. Sometimes, fishing is more of a challenge, as it is when the fish are reluctant to bite. This past week, for instance, our clients got Striped Marlin, Roosterfish, Yellowtail, Yellowfin Tuna, Sierra, Bonito, and a few Grouper. Even though the bite wasn’t as hot as it was during the season, plenty of fish were still around.
Our air temperature was from 68 to 73 degrees, and our water temp was in the 65 to 70-degree range. Plus, the sun was shining every day!

The 24-foot panga, Panga Anamar II, under the expert guidance of Captain Luciano, took his clients, Mike Hayman and Tim Passini, from Minocqua, Wisconsin, to Chileno. There, they caught Three Sierra on bait. Their journey continued to the Cabeza de Ballena, where they caught One Bonito, also on bait. However, the highlight of their day was the 50-pound Hammerhead Shark they caught and released at the Whale’s Head. This unique, incredible experience left them in awe, but they admitted they might not want to repeat it!
Captain Orlando and Mate Jesus, on the “LA BRISA,” a 31-foot Bertram, took their clients James Young and Zachary McDonald to the 1150 Spot. The clients’ satisfaction was evident as they caught and released a 100-pound Striped Marlin, which was exactly what they had hoped for. They left the boat with high praise for the captain and mate and their excellent skills. Their fishing experience was great.
Captain Bruce M. and Mate Carlos Santos welcomed Chandra Hart and Dereck Wischmey aboard the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram. They traveled outside the 1150 and the 95 Spots where they caught and released One 120-pound Striped Marlin on a mackerel. That was the fish they had targeted so they were very excited to have succeeded in getting one. Good going to everyone aboard!
On the “BILL COLLECTOR,” a 32-foot Cabo Express, Captain Niko and Mate Erick met their group from Idaho, Jacob Prochaska, Owen Sweeney, and Porter Garza, and suggested they head to the Pozo Cota, where the best of the fishing had been found. The anglers caught One Ladyfish, Two Red Snapper, and One Sheepshead on bait. While it wasn’t the most productive of days, it was certainly a fun day.
From Virginia came a group of fun-loving fishermen who chartered the “CHASIN TAIL,” a 62-foot Viking, Aiden Wells, Alex Sherman, Chris Osentowski, Eli Hocking (9-years-old), Evan Wells, Franklin Osentowski, John Hocking, Scott Hocking, Travis Wells, and Vadim Sherman. With Captain Pepe, and Mates Dulce, Ulices and Ramon running the boat to see that they enjoyed their day, laughter and fun filled the air with their camaraderie. They caught One Sierra on bait and One 35-pound Grouper. They all wore smiles throughout the day.
Cindy Masmar, Craig Masmar, Patricia Schuknecht, and Schoen Schuknecht selected the 35-foot Bertram, the “VALERIE,” with Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores running the show. They caught a variety of fish from One Sierra and Eighteen Bonito on bait at the Gaspareno to a Roosterfish at the Old Lighthouse. They enjoyed the day and learned a lot about fishing the different
species.

Captain Juan C. on the “BILL COLLECTOR II,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, welcomed anglers Bill and Jeannette Garrett as they came aboard and decided they were the nicest people he could have hoped to meet. They caught and released One 15-pound Roosterfish and One 20-pound Yellowtail on mackerel outside the Las Palmas. Bill and Jeannette vowed to return and fish another day with Captain Juan.
On the 35-foot Bertram, the “VALERIE,” Captain Roberto Sandez and Mate Salvador Flores took off with guests Brandi and Jerry West toward Gaspareno to see if they could get a few hungry fish to bite. When they arrived, it was fun to see the different species in action. Fourteen Sierra were hot after their cuchi, plus they couldn’t get the Bonito to stay away from their bait. By the time they moved away toward the Migrino, they had caught Twenty-Six Bonito. On the Migrino, they caught Six Grouper on chum. The biting fish and the warm sun made the trip near perfect, and they thanked their hosts for the excellent time.
And on the 31-foot Bertram “RUTHLESS,” Captain Beto Lira, and Mate Mario Juarez took their anglers Doug Baum, Jason Hollingsworth, Noah Cramer, and Sam Hollingsworth, from Fishers, Indiana to an area where they caught a variety of fish. They caught Eight Sierra, One Roosterfish, and One Bonito all on bait in the same Spot, the Gaspareno. They had a blast! — It was a day of great fun and shared experiences.

Everyone loves a happy ending, and perhaps that’s why Addeson Grantham, Mary Morgan, Harbour Road, Grantham, Sharp Grantham, and Robert Grantham chose the “HAPPY ENDING,” a 60-foot Viking for their fishing platform this week. Captain Francisco and Mates Miguel and Omar were pleasant, as they always are when they greeted the group from Mississippi and looked forward to fishing with them. They headed to the Cabrillo Mount, where they caught and released Five 100 to 120-pound Striped Marlin on bait and lures.

The solo angler from Indiana, Jason Hollingsworth, headed out on the “RUTHLESS,” a 31-foot Bertram, with Captain Beto Lira eager to help him find his much sought-after marlin. Heading 35 miles to the 120 Spot, he caught and released a 120-pound Striped Marlin on a mackerel. He was one happy angler!

The Holtz family, Callie Holtz, Elizabeth Holtz, Jenna Holtz, Silas Holtz, and Wyatt Holtz, selected the “TIBURON,” a 31-foot Bertram with Captain Frank M. and Mate Mario J., for their fishing day. They traveled to the La Ballena, where they caught Two Sierra and Two Bonito on bait. They enjoyed their time on the wáter with the Captain, mate, and the beautiful Sea of Cortez.

When Jaren Glass, Kyler Glass, Owen Morad, Sadie Hoffer, Ty Hoffer, and William Hyman chartered “MY WAY,” a 48-foot Viking, little did they know they would be able to catch the fish they came to Cabo to find. Their target was to catch a Striped Marlin, and instead, they caught and released Two Striped Marlin on mackerel and a lure. Captain Arturo and Mates Daniel and Josue headed outside the 1150 Bank where they heard reports of Marlin being caught and hit the jackpot for their clients. In addition to the Marlin, they got Three Bonito on lures at the Santa Maria. Their group was very happy as they departed the boat.

“ANDREA,” a 28-foot Uniflite run by Captain Fernando Noyola with Mate Marcelo D., headed to the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Spot where their client, Joseph Picariello, caught Two trophy-sized Roosterfish weighing 18 and 25 pounds on bait and One nice-sized, 25-pound Yellowtail on a mackerel. Joseph enjoyed catching these hard-fighting warriors of the sea and left feeling as though he had a great fishing day.

From Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Holly Jenkins, Natalie Jenkins, Ray Jenkins, and Tyson Jenkins had a fun-filled day on the “KNOT WORKIN,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge. With the amiable Captain Abraham and the equally pleasant Mate Cesar, they had a great time. Their enjoyment was further heightened when they ran to the Los Arcos and caught Two nice-sized Roosterfish, adding to the fun they had.

Captain Julio Castro and Mate TracyAnn Raul Leal, who run the “TRACY ANN,” a 31-foot Bertram, took the Kujak brothers, Conner and Michael Kujak, to the Elias Calles, where they caught Nine Sierra on bait. They had a splendid day with the crew on Tracy Ann and vowed that this would not be the last time they visited Cabo or the Pisces fleet.

The “RIPPER,” a 35-foot Cabo Flybridge, managed by Captain Abel and Mate Daniel A. decided that the best place to take their clients to fish would be the Elias Calles if the talk on the docks were to be believed. So, they loaded up their guests from California, Andrew Nolan, Charles Nolan, Derik Madorma, Eric Brown, Gene Gatti, and Ryan Nolan, and headed off in that direction. The anglers caught Six Sierra and Two Bonito. No one seemed to be disappointed at the slow bite. In fact, they commented that it was an excuse to come back when the season offered more species to target.
